Discover the many hidden charms of the Helderberg Hilltowns
To the Editor:
The Helderberg Hilltowns Association is sponsoring this year’s “Discover the Hilltowns” self-guided driving tour on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15 and 16.
Paper maps will be available at local libraries and other public places, and a printable electronic version will be available at www.Hilltowns.org.
Attractions will include something for everyone: Woodworkers can look for that perfect, specially milled board; children can visit with baby animals and play lawn games; picnickers can lunch by waterfalls; hikers can explore nature preserves.
You can watch border collies herd sheep on command. You can see how cider is made, how machine-quilting is done, or see handmade quilts and fancy needlework and vote for your favorites.
You can learn about a variety of modern methods that family farms are using. You can wander through castle grounds, watch sword-fencing demonstrations, learn how fresh bread is baked in a beehive oven, or relax with a cold glass of locally crafted beer.
You’ll be able to shop for antiques, fine gifts from around the world, farm-fresh vegetables and preserves, handmade soaps, Adirondack furniture, and much more.
Mark your calendars and plan to take a ride in the country and discover some of the many hidden charms of the Helderberg Hilltowns.
