Ed Cowley was a great person, outstanding artist

To the Editor:

As a Buffalo native, I moved to the Albany area in 1962 to join the faculty of the newly created University at Albany. One of my earliest friends was the head of the art department (also a fellow Buffalonian), Ed Cowley.

We spent many hours together — whether it was playing horseshoes (in which I never came close to a win) or golf — a more even game. We also spent time together at the Vineyard and days in which I helped with improvements in Altamont

Ed was a great person as a friend, as an outstanding artist and as one who was committed to environmental quality.

The letter (by Ed Cowley III) brought back so many wonderful thoughts of the past that I recall and introduced me to others, mostly those of a more recent period. I was very impressed by these events, many of which I had forgotten.

I look forward to being reminded of many more wonderful happenings during the next 15 days as I hopefully reach 91 years of age.

I have three of his paintings and my daughter has at least one.
