GUILDERLAND — Ellen Lynne Campion Hunsinger “entered into eternal life on August 19, 2025 after an eight-year battle with colon cancer,” her family wrote in a tribute. She was 80.

She was born in Albany, the daughter of the late William and Marcia Campion.

“She was the beloved wife of Patrick Hunsinger for 58 years with whom she shared a lifetime of adventures and love with family and friends,” the tribute said. “Their marriage was a role model for others to witness, one of such strength and endurance.”

She was a graduate of Voorheesville’s high school and of the State University of New York at Farmingdale. She retired from the state’s Division of Budget in 1997.

She was a past president and life member of the New Salem Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, charter member and past president of the Albany County Volunteer Ladies Auxiliary, member of the NSFDA Hose Hustlers Firematic Drill Team, past member of the Voorheesville Area Ambulance, and member of the Voorheesville American Legion Auxiliary.

“We will cherish all of our memories of countless trips to Walt Disney World, Myrtle Beach, Wildwood and many Caribbean cruises with family and friends,” her family wrote.

Ellen Lynne Campion Hunsinger is survived by the love of her life, Patrick; her loving daughter, Kristin (Paul) of East Greenbush; and her precious grandchildren, Walter Patrick (Natalie) of Atlanta, Georgia, Shea Elizabeth of Dallas, Texas, Olivia Lynne (Matthew) of Albany and Scott Joseph (Madeline) of East Greenbush.

“Ellen was looking forward to meeting her first great grandchild, Matthew James, due in October,” her family wrote.

She is also survived by her sister, Susan (James) Rider of Poestenkill and her nephew, Gary (Samantha) Ruberti of Burlington, Vermont. She is survived and loved by numerous cousins.

Her parents died before her, as did her in-laws, Albert and Amelia Hammond, and her sister, Mary (Gary) Ruberti.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home in Voorheesville from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26. Graveside services will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on Route 85 in New Salem at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. A reception will follow at the New Salem firehouse at 694 New Salem Rd.
