County announces home-repair grants for the elderly

ALBANY COUNTY — Applications are being accepted for Community Development Block Grant funding for a housing rehabilitation program targeted to seniors.

The applications will be accepted by the Albany County Rural Housing Alliance and funding can be used by homeowners on home repairs and upgrades such as roof replacement, new windows and doors, upgrades to electrical wiring and plumbing, as well as repair to foundations.

The funding can also be used to improve access into the home as well as to increase accessibility within the home, making it easier for homeowners to safely navigate in their home and remain self-sufficient.

The program funding is only available to owner-occupied homes and applicants must be residents of areas of Albany County outside of the city of Albany and the town of Colonie.

The income eligibility requirements are $45,950 for a household of one, $52,500 for a household of two, $59,050 for a household of three, and $59,050 for a household of four.
