Tobacco ban in parks makes our town a healthier place

To the Editor:

As a longtime resident of Guilderland, I was very happy to read that the town board unanimously passed a local law prohibiting tobacco use in town parks and open spaces.

Every summer, I look forward to the outdoor concerts in Tawasentha Park. I’ll enjoy them even more next year when I don’t have to move my chair to escape clouds of secondhand smoke. I’ll even be able to take my nieces and nephews along without having to be concerned about the negative health effects of secondhand smoke on their young lungs.

Thank you to Supervisor Peter Barber and the rest of the board for passing the tobacco-free parks law and making our town a healthier place to enjoy the great outdoors.
