The fairgrounds are abuzz with hustle and bustle

To the Editor:
We are so getting ready for the Altamont Fair! We have waited so long to get to this day!

The fairgrounds are abuzz with the hustle and bustle of getting ready for visitors.

The Super Himalaya and Super Cyclone rides are ready for riders, with more rides are the way!

The 4-H exhibits are judged and displayed with ribbons, just waiting to share with the community.

The exhibit cases are filling up, the last-minute preparations keep everyone hopping, all in the desire to share the important story of agriculture and history.

The animals arrived on Monday — ponies, horses, sheep, goats, cows, chickens, ducks — we have it all! Check out the schedule of our livestock shows.

Through Sunday, we open at 10 a.m.; rides and carnival open at noon.

The Altamont Fair celebrates over 125 years of showcasing agriculture and history and providing family-friendly entertainment.

Do you love motorsports? We are hosting two demolition derbies — Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Lawnmower pulls are Friday at 4 p.m.; how much weight can a lawnmower pull? The Kids Power Wheels “Demo Derby” is on Saturday at 6 p.m. Tons of fun for the kids as they wind their way in front of the grandstand to avoid being tagged!

We have many kids’ activities planned. Bring the kids to decorate cookies with Miss Altamont Fair in the Blue Ribbon Cooking Center. Put together a race car at the Auto Museum. We have a baby-animal area, “The Barnyard,” and also “Hands-on Farming” for the little ones to learn about farm experiences.

The Dynamo Dogs are returning, sharing their Frisbee expertise and unbridled enthusiasm. Michael DeSchalit, master hypnotist from Las Vegas, is back this year, performing on the Grove stage — are you ready to be hypnotized?

The Royal Hanneford Circus has many acts of circus fun under the big top. The Sherman Lumberjack Show will perform in the Village and Carriage Museum. Have you seen Uncharted Wild? A great educational experience with some amazing reptiles. On Thursday evening, we will have fireworks to celebrate summer!

We continue our tradition of featuring great local bands that perform on the Reid Northrup Stage. Check out your favorites and catch some new music!

We have a great lineup … Skeeter Creek performs on Thursday; the popular country band is a fan favorite! Friday night brings Get Up Jack, performing great Irish folk music of yesterday, merging it with the energy of American classic rock music. Big Sky Country takes the stage on Saturday night, ready to deliver some high-energy country music. Grit N Whiskey closes out the fair on Sunday evening, ready to share their strong vocals, high energy, and danceable country music. Check it out!

Are you ready for some fabulous fair food? What is your favorite? We have all kinds of fair food lined up for you. Don’t forget to check out the Dreamland Amusements Midway with exciting thrill and kiddie rides — unlimited rides included with paid admission.

One-price admission (for patrons 36 inches and taller) includes unlimited rides, attractions, the Royal Hanneford Circus, and parking. Admission is $22 at the gate.

Wednesday is Senior, Grange and Armed Services Day — seniors 65 years and up, Grange members and members/veterans of the Armed Forces receive free admission all day. These special admissions also include rides thanks to Dreamland Amusements. Be sure to check the website: www.altamontfair.com for the latest details and most current schedule. The schedule is subject to change.

The Altamont Fair is a three-county fair representing Albany, Schenectady, and Greene counties. It is a not-for-profit, public educational and historical society supported entirely by admissions, rentals, contributions, and the assistance of hundreds of dedicated volunteers.
