Gunfire at park gathering results in fatality

BETHLEHEM — Two men were shot at a Tuesday night gathering at Henry Hudson Park; one of them died, police report.

The Bethlehem Police received a report of shots being fired at 8:53 p.m. at 162 Lyons Road in Selkirk, the address of the park, according to a release from the department.

“Upon arrival of police units, many of the attendees at the gathering had fled but officers were able to determine that two people had been shot and transported to Albany Medical Center in personal vehicles,” the 1:48 a.m. release said. “At this time, one person is being treated with non-life threatening injuries and another person is deceased.”

At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, police released the names of the shooting victims: Rahmier S. Stevenson, age 23, of Albany, died, and Traydon J. Lawrence, age 20, of Troy, was injured.

Bethlehem Police said in a Wednesday afternoon update that their detectives and the New York State Police have finished processing the scene at Henry Hudson Park and the park would be reopened later on Wednesday.

“During the processing of the scene, several gun shell cartridges were recovered,” the update said. “The caliber of the round and the number of rounds recovered will not be released at this time.”

Detectives continue to interview witnesses to the incident and are still working to develop suspect information, the update said.

The Bethlehem Police ask that anyone who may have information regarding the Aug. 17 shooting to call 518-439-9973.

The last murder in Bethlehem was in September 2020. A Selkirk man killed his wife and then himself in their Chesterwood Drive home.
