GUILDERLAND — Four Guilderland High School runners are All-American athletes after placing sixth in the girls’ 1600 split medley relay at the 2021 Outdoor Nationals.

Kendall Barnhart, Willow Novak, Kate Scanlan, and Alexandria Vellekoop were among 40 athletes running the race in July.

Two weeks before the national competition, held in Eugene, Oregon, the Guilderland team broke the school record for the 1600 split medley relay at the New York State Showcase.

Barnhart is a rising sophomore, Scanlan and Novak are rising seniors, and Vellekoop, graduated in June; she will run track at the University of Connecticut.

Outdoor Nationals is a four-day event that draws the top track-and-field athletes in the country. About 2,500 high school athletes competed at the event held at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. The week prior to the Guilderland students arriving, the Olympic trials were held there.
