Grads
These local students have recently earned diplomas:’
— Dr. Claire R. Gravelin, a 2006 graduate of Clayton A. Bouton High School in Voorheesville and daughter of Mark and Karen Gravelin of Slingerlands, received her Ph.D. in social psychology and a minor in quantitative psychology from the University of Kansas.
She will be returning to western New York as a visiting assistant professor of social psychology at the State University of New York College Geneseo this fall. Her research broadly explores the causes and consequences of the marginalization of women focusing on the domains of sexual assault and the underrepresentation of women in positions of leadership and STEM (science math, engineering, and technology) fields.
“Claire's greatest passion is in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students,” her parents said. “She has taught a wide range of face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses and is actively engaged in the scholarship of teaching and learning where she explores new ways to challenge and improve best practices in teaching.”
These efforts were recognized by two university-wide awards for excellence in teaching in higher education while at the University of Kansas;
— Connor O’Hern of Delmar received an industrial design degree from Pratt Institute in New York City;
— Kelly G. Camardo of Altamont graduated from Fairfield University in Connecticut;
