Driver charged with DWAI

GUILDERLAND — On Sunday morning, when a car jumped lanes on Route 20 and hit a trailer, the trailer’s axle came loose, injuring a bystander, according to a release from the Guilderland Police.

The car’s driver, Donna L. Bold, 58, of 33 Park Ave. in Albany, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and other violations.

Guilderland Police say events unfolded this way: At about 10:40 a.m., Bold was driving east on Route 20 in a 2014 Chevy Cruze when she crossed into the westbound lane striking a 2011 Ford pickup, which was towing a 2012 Trailex trailer.

Edward J. Smith, 58, of 14 Magnolia Circle in Ravena, was driving the truck. The impact of the collision caused the trailer’s axle to come off. The axle then struck Joseph G. Ganance, 47, of 515 Medway Earlton Road in Earlton, who was standing next to the road near his parked vehicle.

Ganance suffered a serious leg injury and was transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital by Altamont Rescue Squad and Guilderland Emergency Medical Services. Donna Bold and Edward Smith both suffered minor injuries and were also transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Bold was processed and released on her own recognizance. The collision is still being investigated and additional charges may be filed.

Other agencies responding to the accident, which occurred near 5083 Western Turnpike, included the Guilderland Fire Department and the Fort Hunter Fire Department.
