Continuing Dan Driscoll’s legacy of service in the Helderbergs

To the Editor:

Thank you for the beautiful article you wrote about our father and husband, Dan Driscoll. You captured the essence of his love for the Helderbergs and his deep commitment to preserving the many unique facets that make it a treasured place for so many.

Dan truly lived for projects that preserved the history and character of the Helderbergs. In his final days, he often advised his doctors about hikes to explore in local land preserves, or told visiting friends about recent progress on the discovery of lime kilns in the area.

It brings us great joy to know that Dan will live on through the historical markers, preserves, planning ordinances and guides, and countless other projects he helped complete. But none of these accomplishments were his alone. It is equally comforting to know that there are so many other caring, committed individuals who will continue to preserve the rural character and history of the Helderbergs.

Dan helped us appreciate the time, skill, and commitment it takes to accomplish lasting change. At his memorial Mass, we were reminded of the many talented, patient individuals who share his love of the Helderbergs. May Dan’s spirit live on through each of you as you continue working to preserve the rural character of the Helderbergs.
