Dems need tangible issues. Knox Republicans know that party loyalty means nothing in a small town.
To the Editor:
Boy, the same handful of people that has been attacking Supervisor Vasilios Lefkaditis since the day he took office is still trying to convince us that he is trying to brainwash everyone and singlehandedly sway an election. This sounds a lot like our national landscape where some just can’t accept defeat.
The bully Knox Democrat Machine needs to grow up and find a real message to run on because right now it has none. Its message is to simply run against the supervisor’s “tone of voice” rather than real issues. They can’t attack him on issues or decisions he has made because he has accomplished so much and is doing so well.
Mrs. Amy Pokorny stated in The Enterprise two weeks ago that she was running to bring “respectfulness.” This election is not being voted on with people’s emotions, or at least it shouldn’t be. It is based on actual issues and citizens’ concerns.
I’d sure as heck love to have someone like Vas, who continues to find ways to save our town money, all while continuing the growth and development of our town and maintaining our rural character, without trying to waste taxpayer money for unfeasible renewable energy. Voters will be looking at all of the drastic ways he has saved Knox money, increased services for seniors and youth, and helped push the town into expanding and creating business districts.
There will be more letters I’m sure, on how the supervisor supposedly trashed this person, made a young girl cry, or pushed someone down on the ground. It has pretty much been said already and the attacks just keep coming.
In reality, it doesn’t happen. Go to a board meeting and see for yourself. You will understand the supervisor’s frustration and irritation with the way the town board tries to run everything. Record the meeting on Facebook Live for everyone to see, then share it to the Town of Knox Facebook page.
I would actually encourage the town clerk to begin using Facebook Live for board meetings as the Berne-Knox-Westerlo School Board is doing. It’s a great way to keep everyone informed and allows those who can’t make it out to be a part of the community.
I also thought Mr. Eric Kuck was finished with the hostility of politics when he left the town board, but here he is again (last week), throwing around shameful accusations he can’t even prove! First, he says how “...the democratic process worked properly and fairly” at the Democrat caucus.
However, according to the Altamont Enterprise article about the caucus, “[Kuck] said a vote would be taken for one group of three nominees or another, and then corrected himself to say it could be any three of the six nominees. With ballots on scraps of paper passed out at the last minute, people standing in the back shouted for it to be voted on by a show of hands, to no response.”
By my, and I’m sure others’ standards, your “democratic” process was a bit shady. You can’t really ignore people and call it fair.
He even goes so far as to say that people in attendance were “coerced” into changing party enrollments and voting at the caucus. Those are some serious accusations and I demand that you show proof of that claim. That is disrespectful and hurtful to a democratic process.
You are literally attacking hard working, tax paying Knox residents that indeed like the work that Vas is doing and who chose to vote for him. You should be ashamed of yourself. If you are saying Vas coerced a whopping 65 people to change enrollment, drive to the town hall, and vote for him, then he has some great magical powers I wish I had!
If you thought your caucus was proper and fair but then state people were coerced, then it was actually a total sham.
And you can’t really say that Vas was trying to limit the voters’ choice because the voters are the ones that decide after all. It seems like the Democratic slate was nervous Mrs. Pokorny might not get the coronation and Vas would. I mean, a 17 vote difference out of 147 is pretty slim.
It’s funny, too, because Mr. Kuck rails against limiting choice but here we have the Knox Democratic Committee handpicking its candidates before the caucus. What if Vas won your caucus? Would you still support him?
Vas has more proven and cost-saving results than practically the last 40 years combined. This is why people voted for him and this is why people will vote for him again. We finally like what is happening in Knox.
Knox Republicans know that party lines and party loyalty mean nothing in a small town and thus chose Vas to represent their line on the ballot, among other great candidates. I would have thought the Democratic party would feel the same, but I guess once one of your own gets on the ballot under a different party, it’s an all-out political, and most certainly personal, assault.
For the other co-chair of the Democrat Party, Ms. Dee Woessner, her comments are completely uncalled for, biased, and simply rude. In her letter to The Enterprise on July 20, she absurdly says that Ms. Pokorny has “lived in Knox longer” and “contributed far more to the community” than Vas.
That is not only petty but childish to go that low and say that. Sure, Vas has lived here for a shorter time than Ms. Pokorny, but is that really your basis to vote for someone? I didn’t know there was a residency requirement. And Vas’s contribution to the school board and Little League, to say the least, are not sufficient?
Again, the lack of a message and concern for the issues is evident. Remember, Ms. Woessner is the co-chair of the party. Talk about limiting voters’ choice, she was already calling for Mrs. Pokorny’s coronation before caucus-goers even had a chance to vote.
Oh, and by the way, the only one to call us a bunch of “easily-duped hicks” was Mr. Kuck, the true face and sentiment of the Knox Democratic Machine.
Enough of the personal attacks; show us what real tangible issues your slate plans to tackle if elected. We will be waiting.
