Hand-hewn beams and joinery are among the wonders of old barns, which will be on display in Wright on Aug. 20.

WRIGHT — Eight historic barns in the town of Wright will be open on Saturday, Aug. 20, for those participating in a self-guided driving tour sponsored by the Gallupville House Association.
The tour, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. includes barns built from the 1790s to the mid-1800s. Tickets are $20 per person with children 12 and younger not charged. Proceeds will support the Gallupville House Association and renovation work.

“The tour includes examples of a late-1700s scribe rule Palatine Dutch barn, a double anchor beam Dutch barn, swing-beam barns, and early- to mid-1800s square-rule barns,” according to a notice about the tour.

An optional lunch is available to tour-goers at The Babbling Brook Watering Hole and Eatery, located nearby at 2320 Helderberg Trail in Berne for $15 per person.

Tickets and maps of the tour are available, and the tour starts at the historic Gallupville House located at 913 State Route 443.

Situated in the center of town, the 1872 Gallupville House continues to honor its heritage as a hotel, Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge, and Grange Hall by hosting a variety of community and private events. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is supported by the not-for-profit Gallupville House Association and the town of Wright.
