RENSSELAERVILLE — The Huyck Preserve is celebrating its 85th anniversary on  Saturday, Aug. 13, with a dinner recognizing past accomplishments and looking ahead to future progress.

Four long-time supporters will be honored, encompassing the preserve’s four-part mission of conservation, education, recreation, and research. The honored guests include:

— Shirley Stevens French for her longtime support of the Huyck Preserve's conservation efforts;

— Agnes Zellin from the Berne-Knox-Westerlo School District who has partnered with the preserve to increase access to education opportunities for schoolchildren;

— Harry Carter, otherwise known as "DJ Hair Man" from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute public radio show and longtime member and supporter of the preserve’s recreation and Lake Program; and

— Susan Beatty, Ph.D. who has been part of the preserve team for over 30 years, ranging from researcher to board member and Research Committee member.

Hors d'oeuvres, starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner, and dessert will be provided by chef Bill Bensen from Rensselaerville's Palmer House Cafe. The John Savage Quartet will play jazz music.

A raffle will benefit the Huyck Preserve School Field Trip Fund Campaign to bring more students to the preserve, and there will be live and silent auctions as well.

Tickets cost $55 and may be ordered through the Huyck Preserve’s website. For more information, call (518)797-3440.
