Altamont Fair partners with South End Children’s Café

ALTAMONT — The 2019 Altamont Fair, which runs from Aug. 13 to 18, will work with the South End Children’s Café to help children from Albany come to the fair and learn about agriculture.

The mission of South End Children’s Café is to reduce food insecurity, address food equality, and positively influence the physical and mental health of children living in the South end of Albany. The café has programs to educate children on healthy food options and balanced meals in a socially beneficial community setting.

“Our views as an agricultural fair align with the mission of the South End Children’s Café and we are excited to invite these children to our fair for a day of education and fun,” said organizer Christina Grippin in a release from the fair.

“These children, who are often underprivileged, will have the chance to come to the fair and learn about agriculture and where their food comes from,” Grippin said. “Each animal barn has farmers who are excited and willing to educate these children on each animal and what it means to be a farmer and create healthy food.”

While at the fair the children will be able to see poultry and rabbit shows, 4-H presentations, antique farm equipment demonstrations, and participate in the Cabot cheese giveaway.
