Summer fun returns for Westerlo kids

WESTERLO — The town is hosting a Summer Recreation Program at the Westerlo Town Park for the week of July 31 through Aug. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. All children entering first through sixth grade, and who reside within the town of Westerlo, are eligible to attend.

Activities will include a variety of arts and crafts, games, playground fun, and sports.  Registration forms and program information may be downloaded from the Town of Westerlo website, http://www.townofwesterlony.com, and are also available at many local business establishments in and around Westerlo.

Pre-registration will run through July 28, and completed forms may be submitted to the Westerlo town clerk during normal business hours; opening-day registration will be held at the Westerlo Town Park between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m.

The Summer Recreation Program is being re-introduced to our town’s children after many years without a program. A grant to help fund the program was secured by our Albany County Legislator for the 39th District, Christopher Smith, with the goal of bringing a once-popular program back to life.

“It is with sincere appreciation and thanks to Mr. Smith that the town is able to put such a program together this summer, and we are hopeful that this year’s efforts lead to repeating the program next year and beyond.,” said Westerlo Councilman Joseph Boone.
