VOORHEESVILLE — Hazel “Susie” (née Dittmer) Flansburg — a giving person; a talented artist; and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother — died peacefully on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. She was 88.

She was born July 15, 1934, the daughter of the late Valentine and Hazel (née Burroughs) Dittmer.

“Susie was a very kind, loving, giving person who touched the hearts of many,” her family wrote in a tribute. “She was able to shine in every situation and impacted the lives of others in an unforgettable way. She brought light, love, and joy into the lives of others. She was also a ‘spitfire’ at times. She most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

“She was an amazingly talented artist and painted from 1977 to 2022, calling them ‘some of the best years of my life.’ She loved her painting class and friends there, attending weekly class at the Guilderland town senior center. She also enjoyed playing pinochle with her friends weekly at the same place. She often attended art shows and displayed her paintings at the Guilderland and Voorheesville libraries.

“She was a devoted, loving, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.”
