Altamont Enterprise July 6, 1923

DELMAR
Mrs. Alan Merselis, who has been seriously ill, is very much improved and was able to sit up and view the Fourth of July parade and receive the salute of the Girl Scouts, of which she is the captain.

EAST BERNE

Mrs. Charles Onderdonk’s chauffeur allowed quite a serious accident to happen to the new sedan one day this week, smashing it up quite badly.

VILLAGE NOTES

There is some talk about town that Altamont will take Knox’s place in the Helderberg Baseball league. The question will be decided during the coming week. If Altamont enters the league, all home games will be played on the fair grounds here. If the baseball fans of Altamont want their home town to enter this league, they should signify their willingness to support a team. Among other things, attend the baseball meeting Monday night, when the matter will be discussed.

PARKER’S CORNERS

— Lack of helpers is holding back the harvest work here as everywhere.

— The Ladies’ Aid society will hold its July meeting in the Church hall on Wednesday afternoon, July 11 at 2 p.m., daylight saving time. Will the members please try to be present at this meeting?

GUILDERLAND

Howard Myers, who is attending the State School for the Blind at Batavia, is spending his vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Myers here.

NEW SCOTLAND

Too much praise cannot be given to the children of New Scotland Presbyterian church and also to Miss Carrie Beck, Mrs. Peter Pearl and Miss Stella Carhart, who coached them so well, for the splendid entertainment they gave in the church on Tuesday evening, July 3.

The exercise “Patriotic Scenes, Old and New” was exceptionally fine. Each child was perfect in their particular role. Little Sonny Brownell was delightful as Uncle Sam and certainly carried his honors with dignity, as did also the boys and girls who portrayed veterans and nurses of our three wars, Revolutionary, Civil, and World. The “man of the hour” was Little Sonny, for in his rendering of “The Good Old U. S. A.,” he held the audience spellbound.

PERSONAL MENTION
— Donald Baird of Altamont was among the first of the young men of the Capital district to be accepted for the Citizens’ Military Training camp which will open at Plattsburgh August 1st.

— Miss Hazel Hogan and Miss Ella Stafford are enjoying a hiking trip through Massachusetts this week, walking during the day and stopping at various hotels enroute over night. Cards received by friends in Altamont report an ideal time.

NOTICE

All dog licenses expire on June 30.

Every dog must wear a tag of the current dog license year. A dog without such tag is not protected by law, and no action can be maintained for his injury or destruction.
An unlicensed dog may be seized and killed and the fact that a dog is without a tag is presumptive evidence that the dog is unlicensed.

BERNE

Miss Marion Deitz was at Hartwick last week, where she delivered an address at the graduation exercise.
