Vast majority of child safety seats not correctly installed

ALBANY COUNTY — In the course of two decades, from 1998 to 2018, the Albany County Traffic Safety Program has held child safety-seat checkup events to help parents and caregivers protect children in motor vehicles; 2,147 seats have been checked and only 91 of those were correctly instaled.

Over 200 seats were replaced due to them being recalled, too old, damaged, without needed parts, or inappropriate for the child.

Child safety seats that are improperly installed can lead to serious injury or death for children in vehicles involved in traffic accidents, according to a relase from the Albany County Executive’s Office; making sure that these seats are put in correctly can reduce the risks of injury to any child in a moving vehicle.
