We need more people marching

To the Editor:

Thank you for your coverage of Rensselaerville’s Black Lives Matter March [“National movement grips rural Rensselaerville as more than 100 march for racial equity,” June 18, 2020].

The death of George Floyd and utterly shocking video that documented that death has created a nationwide call for change. Many of us, especially those that remember the Civil Rights marches of the ’60s and early ’70s understand that change, finally, must come.

That this group of people, in a largely white Albany County Hilltown could get together, march, and express our collective outrage about the state of the nation and how it treats people of color is something to be very proud of.

Nothing about “Black Lives Matter” is saying Black lives matter more than others; it’s simply that they matter just as much. We need more people marching. If we’re to prosper as a nation, we really need to listen and fix this. It’s about simple justice.
