Availability of Decision Document

Former Burn Pit Area - Area of Concern # 3

Former Schenectady Army Depot – Voorheesville Area Guilderland, New York

The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has decided that no further action will be taken at the former Burn Pit area (known as “Area of Concern (AOC) #3”) at the Former Schenectady Army Depot—Voorheesville Area.

The no further action decision is based upon the completion of previous interim soil removal actions, as well as a Supplemental Remedial Investigation, which concluded that no unacceptable risks remain to human health or the environment associated with AOC #3. There remains a potential for vapor intrusion risk only if a future building is constructed above remaining areas of highest soil vapor concentrations. The property owners (Northeastern Industrial Park, Inc., and the Guilderland Central School District)have no current plans to build at these locations, but have been notified of this potential risk; the Guilderland Building Department has also been provided this information. It is also expected that soil vapor contaminants will degrade over time.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York State Department of Health concur with the no further action decision.

The Responsiveness Summary, included as a part of the Decision Document, specifically addresses public comments received in the decision process. The Decision Document for AOC #3 is available for public review in both the Guilderland and Voorheesville public libraries.
