Shafer a top grad

KNOX — United States airman first class Annielaura M. Shafer graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas. She was at the top of her female division of over 300 and has earned four coins.

The Airman’s coin is awarded near the end of basic military training and marks the transition from trainee to Airman.

Shafer is the daughter of Maria E. and Loren S. Shafer Jr., and a 2016 graduate of Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School.

Shafer completed the intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate’s degree in applied science through the Community College of the Air Force.

Shafer is now in Texas, doing technology training to work on plane engine; in July, she will complete her technology training in Florida.
