VILLAGE NOTES

— Melvin W. Becker, who is somewhat of a gardener, having learned the occupation while living in Berne, and noted there for having all kinds of early vegetables growing, much to the envy of his neighbors, is keeping up his reputation by having a mess of early peas on June 12th.

— A new concrete bridge will be built on the Western turnpike west of Dunnsville in preparation for the state road which is under construction between Hartman’s Corners and the Schenectady county line. The bridge will be of solid concrete, 36 feet long with a 13-foot span. Jacob May of Altamont has the contract for building of the bridge and has already begun the work of excavation for the foundation work.

LAKE MYOSOTIS

The Knox baseball team played our home team Saturday afternoon. The score was tied and due to a dispute they did not play another inning.

FIVE KILLED SUNDAY ON

CROSSING AT CARMAN

The Southwestern limited on the N.Y. Central railroad last Sunday night about 9 o’clock at the Carman crossing smashed to pieces an automobile and killed its five occupants.

They were John A. Taylor, of Albany, his wife and son Earnest, William Reynolds of Schenectady and his aunt, Miss Wooley.

The machine was a total wreck. The crossing gates had not been operated for a week, while changes were being made in the location of the apparatus. The flagman, Charles White, said he signaled the car but the reason it was not heeded will probably never be known.

Miss Wooley and Mr. Reynolds had been the guests of the Taylors and were being taken home by them when the accident happened.

SOUTH BETHLEHEM

—The house of Edward Keil was entered one day last week and about sixty dollars in money, a bank book, and a couple of Liberty bonds taken.

— B. C. Smith has purchased a new Studebaker special touring car, also Albert and John Slingerland have each purchased new Maxwells.

DELANSON

A special election will be held on Tuesday next to vote on an additional appropriation of $9000 for a fire house and village hall.

RAVENA

The fire at the Park Hotel gave the people a great scare on Friday night at 12:30. The whistles of the round house got the firemen out in a hurry and with lots of help it was extinguished before much damage was done. This is the second time it has been on fire. It seems as though it is meant to be destroyed by fire.

THOMPSON’S LAKE

— Children’s Day exercises were held in the church Sunday afternoon. Miss Hilda Brunk was Queen of the Flowers and all her subjects were dressed to represent flowers. The exercises were in the form of one continuous play, or cantata. All did very nicely. Many thanks are due Mrs. Kleese for her training of the children and planning for the enjoyment of all.

— The state road is being oiled through here. They say the smell of tar is healthy. If so, no one need be sick for some time.
