Judge Ackerman’s life’s work speaks for itself

To the Editor:

With regard to your article on the race for Albany County Judge, while I appreciate the focus on Judge Andra Ackerman’s signature U-CAN program, it presents a one-dimensional approach and view of a  highly accomplished and experienced Judge.

While it is true that Judge Ackerman created the first court-based mentoring program in New York State, and many other Judges are now following her lead, she is more than this.

Judge Ackerman, among other things, spent a dozen years prosecuting child molesters and rapists; ran the statewide office of human trafficking policy and prevention; represented countless children in Family Court; made Cohoes City Court one of the top performers in the seven-county region; earned the unanimous endorsement of the Albany County Democratic Committee, the support of organized labor, law enforcement, and the progressive Capital Women.

As someone who has personally watched Judge Ackerman in action, I can attest that she has the professionalism, personal experience, and judicial temperament to be an unrivaled Albany County Court Judge. Her life’s work and experience speaks for itself.
