ENLIST!

A Recruiting Party will be stationed on the grounds of Hotel Altamont from Saturday to Wednesday, June 23-27. Men from 18 to 40 are wanted. Be patriotic and ENLIST.

VILLAGE NOTES

— Will any one having an unused sewing machine in good condition kindly donate it, or the use of it, to the Red Cross work? Kindly leave the machine at the Lutheran church hall.

— A baseball game was played on the fair grounds Saturday afternoon representing Altamont and McKownville. The contest resulted in a victory for our boys by a score of 13 to 2. It is expected that there will be a game on the home diamond this Saturday afternoon.

THOMPSON’S LAKE

The family of Italians who have been living in one of William Zimmer’s farm houses since last fall and working on the state road, left Monday. It is presumed they have work elsewhere.

BARN BUILDINGS BURNED

The barns belonging to Charles Armstrong, in the town of Knox, caught fire from a passing steam roller Wednesday afternoon. When the blaze was discovered, it was beyond control, and the entire group of five buildings were burned to the ground. Mr. Armstrong wishes to thank those were present at the fire and assisted in saving the house.

WESLEY SCHOOLCRAFT DEAD

After an illness of several weeks, Wesley Schoolcraft, a lifelong resident of the town of Guilderland, passed away Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Schoolcraft had been about the house during the day and was feeling as well as usual. When preparing to lie down he was seized with a fainting spell and expired before assistance arrived.

The funeral will be held from his late home Friday afternoon at two o’clock. Mr. Schoolcraft was in his 68th year, and is survived by his wife, a son, Charles, and a daughter, Cora Schoolcraft.
