Learn local history through song

To the Editor:

The letter to the editor in last week’s Altamont Enterprise praising the Old Songs’ production of  “Down With the Rent!” had several excellent points. Two are worth mentioning again:

— 1.  The outstanding quality of the concert with well-known area musicians singing, and

— 2. The narrative telling a lot of local history, which most area people do not know and will learn if they attend the show.

For those who missed seeing “Down With the Rent!” I invite you to see it on Friday, July 3, in Rensselaerville. Since it is the story of Hilltown people in the mid-1800s rebelling to own their own land, we thought, since it is a freedom theme, that showing it near Fourth of July would be very appropriate.

Show time is 7 p.m. at the Carey Institute Performance Hall (Guggenheim building) and the cost is only $10. Questions and advance reservations may be made at (cell phone) 252-714-6626. The performance is being sponsored by the Rensselaerville Historical Society.
