History of Settle Family and John Vanderpool marked

To the Editor:

On June 20, the Guilderland Historical Society will be hosting a dedication of two historic markers at 315 Settles Hill Road in Guilderland. The ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. There is parking across the street.

There will be a  marker dedicated to the Settle Family for whom the hill is named. This will be a marker that is part of the Legends and Lore category of markers as designated by the William G. Pomeroy foundation.

The second historical marker will honor John Vanderpool who is a Revolutionary War patriot. Mr. Vanderpool is buried approximately 250 feet north of Settles Hill Road in a designated plot. His tombstone is visible.

The Guilderland Historical Society has worked with the Empire State Society Sons of the American Revolution to bring this marker about. The marker category is Revolutionary War Patriots.

These will mark the fourth and fifth historical marker dedications in the last two years provided by the Guilderland Historical Society. The sixth will be dedicated at the Altamont Free Library in July.
