Ellen Ann Miller

ALBANY — Ellen Ann Miller, a dedicated volunteer who ran her own day-care business, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 in St. Peter’s Hospice. She was 76.

Mrs. Miller was born in Albany, and lived in the area all her life. She was employed by the Albany Billiard Ball Company and the Veterans Affairs Hospital before starting her own day-care business.

“Ellen was a dedicated volunteer, serving with Soldiers Angels and the John McKenna Military Courtesy room at the Albany International Airport,” her family wrote in a tribute. “She also was a life member of the North Bethlehem Fire Department Auxiliary and a member of the North Bethlehem Fire Police. She was a Troop Committee Chair for the Troop 24 Boy Scouts of Guilderland and was a Cub Scout Leader.

“In addition, she volunteered at the Sister Maureen Joyce Soup Kitchen, and was a member of the Albany County Democratic Committee 15th Ward Albany. In 2016 she was presented with a service award from the Albany County Democratic Committee for outstanding and selfless service.”

Ellen Ann Miller is survived by her beloved husband, Paul Miller; her children, David VanNordstrand and his wife, Briana, of Guilderland, Jennifer Holmes and her husband, Lee, of Schenectady, and Robert Miller and his wife, Amy, of Bethlehem.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Susan Salisbur,y of Troy; her grandchildren, David Wania, Michael and Armand VanNordstrand, Tyler, Alison, Alexis, and Alana Holmes, and Elizabeth Miller; and by her great-granddaughter, Riley Wania.

Her parents, Leroy and Eileen Cunningham Salisbury, died before her, as did her son, Larry Williams, and her brother, Leroy Salisbury.  

Funeral services were held in the Hans Funeral Home on May 25. Interment was in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, Soldiers Angels, or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

  • Robert L. “Bob” Marx, who served in the Air Force and had a career at General Electric, was a gifted athlete and talented woodworker.

    He died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024, at the blessed age of 93.
