Join the Porter Challenge to get fit and have fun

Porter Bidleman, at 94, walks twice a day at the Altamont fairgrounds, inspiring The Porter Challenge.

To the Editor:

During the month of June, join “The Porter Challenge”! Porter, a 94-year-old World War II veteran walks the fairgrounds twice a day with his walker. From June 1 through June 30, we will be hosting the Porter Challenge to honor him and his daily exercise commitment.

What is the Porter Challenge? We want to see who can walk the most laps around the fairgrounds during the month of June. Whoever has the most laps on June 30 wins the challenge.

How can you join? Starting June 1, individuals and families can sign up inside Gate 4 (Grand Street entrance) in the candy building. You can join anytime during the month of June.

How do you track your laps? Each time you walk the fairgrounds, log your laps on the signup sheet. To help keep us all honest, we’ve installed cameras around the fairgrounds. Make sure you wave to say hello.

Is there a prize? You bet! Not only will you win bragging rights but you will also win tickets to the fair and fair swag to go with it.

We encourage everyone to participate. When you are on the grounds, grab a selfie and let us know you’ve joined the challenge. Share on social media, tag it with #PorterChallenge! Join us – get fit and have some fun!
