Visit our Knox museum on Memorial Day

To the Editor:

The Knox Historical Society will open its doors for the 45th time this Memorial Day, from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. The Saddlemire Homestead, which was built in 1885, serves as the home to the Knox Historical Society.

Stop by and visit our nine rooms of Knox history, from our famous Knox Cave rom to our one-room schoolhouse room.

This year, our museum will be open every Wednesday for the months of July and August from noon till 2 p.m. or by appointment by calling me at (518) 860-7861.

We will be presenting three programs this year. Our first will be June 17 when we will be demonstrating farming in years’ past with farmer Ken Saddlemire discussing current farming. Historical society members will show the use of old farm tools.

On July 8, we will have a local blacksmith demonstrating his trade. Back in the late 1800s through the early 1900s, there were several blacksmiths located in Knox.

Finally, Benjamin Franklin will visit us at the Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School auditorium on Sept. 22.

We invite you to join us as a guest or become a member. We meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Knox Town Hall.

Finally, the Knox Historical Society would like to reach out to all past and present men and women from the town of Knox who have served or are currently serving our country in the military to please stop by the museum so we can meet you, take your photo, and have you sign our registry so we may honor you by placing these items in our Patriots room of the museum.
