Upcoming Memorial Day Parades

Red, white, and blue stood against a speckled sky during Altamont's wreath laying ceremony in honor of fallen soldiers last weekend. This weekend, Memorial Day parades will march through Voorheesville, Berne, and Knox.

Voorheesville: Saturday, May 27

The village parade begins at 10 a.m. at the corner of Route 85A and Circle Drive and concludes an hour later with American Legion ceremonies at Nichols Park followed by the Kiwanis children’s races. At 12:15 p.m., the 42nd annual two-mile (3.2 kilometers) Race & Fun Walk begins as does the 15K (9.3 miles) race. From 2 to 6 p.m., a Kiwanis Giffy’s Chicken Barbecue will be held outside Reilly & Son Funeral Home. The Annual Village Party, at the Voorheesville firehouse, starts at 6 p.m. with music by Joey Pucci and the American Longboards and food by the volunteer firemen, concluding with fireworks at dark.

Hilltowns, in Berne: Monday, May 29

The Hilltown parade, sponsored by the Kiwanis, starts at 10 a.m. and concludes at the Berne-Knox-Westerlo campus on Helderberg trail (Route 443) where veterans, including seven from World War II, will be honored after traveling in antique military vehicles.

Knox: Monday, May 29

The parade on Route 156 in the hamlet starts at noon with food and activities following at the Knox Town Hall. The Knox Historical society museum, housed in the Saddlemire Homestead, in front of the town hall on Route 156 will be open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
