Westerlo to host inaugural July 4th parade
To the Editor:
The Hilltowns and beyond are cordially invited to participate in the 2025 Westerlo Independence Day Parade on Friday, July 4, 2025.
The town of Westerlo along with the Westerlo Volunteer Fire Company are excited to host an Independence Day Parade in Westerlo. The July 4 parade will start at Airport Road and Hannay Reels and progress along State Route 143 to County Route 401 to the Westerlo Veterans Memorial Park ending with an afternoon of events and a traditional American barbecue.
This is the first parade in Westerlo in a very long time, and we hope we can count on our neighboring communities in the Hilltowns of Berne, Knox, Westerlo, Rensselaerville, Greene County, Schoharie County, and beyond.
Please join us as we celebrate the anniversary of our nation’s independence. Marching groups of Scouts, schools, sports teams, organizations, veteran organizations, emergency services, highway departments, bands, and floats are welcome to join us.
We would also love to see our area’s farmers participate. There will be judging of units, floats, and marchers.
In addition, there will be a “People’s Choice Award” for apparatus. If any group or organization is interested in participating, please contact the Westerlo Supervisor’s Office at 518-797-3111, ext. 1014 or email
After the parade, which will run from noon to 4 p.m., the town and fire company will be hosting a Family Day event at Veterans Memorial Park, with a cornhole tournament, games for kids, a dunk tank, a band — Vinyl Analysis, a beer truck, and food and drinks.
We are looking forward to the first of many Independence Day celebrations.
Let’s celebrate as a community!
Matthew Kryzak
Town Supervisor
