Steven W. Rapp

CARLSBAD, Calif. — Steven W. Rapp, known to many as Steve, died on Monday, May 5, 2025, just shy of his 68th birthday in Carlsbad, California.

Born on May 20, 1957, in Catskill, New York, he was the beloved son of the late Joseph W. Rapp of Berne and Patricia Rapp Neal, and stepson to the late John Neal of Voorheesville.

“Steve spent his early years in Voorheesville, New York, where he graduated from Voorheesville Central School in 1975,” his family wrote in a tribute. “Adventurous and ambitious from a young age, he set out after  graduation to build a life defined by independence and determination.

“He first moved to Houston, Texas, and then made his way to San Diego, California, a place that captured his heart and remained his home for the next 42 years.

“Steve owned and operated his own business focused on building and remodeling commercial real-estate construction across southern California. He was known not only for his impeccable craftsmanship and eye for detail, but for the personal integrity he brought to every project.

“Steve was also a skilled woodworker and craftsman. He generously shared his skills with others, mentoring younger craftsmen and always lending his time, tools, or advice. His  legacy lives on in the work he created and in those he inspired.

“Away from work, Steve was a man of wide interests and deep passions. He loved the outdoors — especially fishing and boating. He was a dedicated NASCAR fan, and he delighted in the thrill and camaraderie that came with race day.

“Steve gave endlessly — to friends, family, neighbors, and even strangers. People were drawn to his warm personality, his strength of character, and his generosity. His circle of friends and loved ones was vast, and he never hesitated to show up for those who needed him.

“Those who knew Steve will remember him as a man of heart, skill, humor, and humility. His legacy is one of love, craftsmanship, generosity, and connection. He built more than structures — he built relationships, community, and a life well lived.”

Steven W. Rapp is survived by his brother, Bill Rapp (Diane); his sister, Theresa Rapp White (Kenneth); his aunt, Marlene Snyder Coon (Randall); and his stepmom, Alida Carl Rapp.

He also leaves behind his beloved stepchildren, Kea Weirich (Jason) and Kurt Sullivan; and cherished step-grandchildren, Sierra  and Tanner Weirich, and Taylor Sullivan.

“Steve had many nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him dearly,” his family wrote. “His devoted companion, Julie Riddle, was a constant presence in his life and heart, and his lifelong best friend and business partner, Kyle Leutzinger, stood by his side through countless personal and professional milestones.

“Steve was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pam whom he cherished for many years and never stopped holding close in memory and heart.

“A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at a later date for family and friends. It is likely, and fitting, that the Pacific Ocean — so intertwined with the California life he loved — will  play a part in honoring a life so fully and freely lived.”
