Local athletes play at college

These local athletes have distinguished themselves on their college or university teams:

Sarah Webber, a Guilderland High School graduate, made the Niagara University Dean’s List for the fall 2017 semester and also made the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference all-academic team announced at the 2018 MAAC Swim Championships in February. Webber helped her team finish sixth at the MAAC Swim Championships;

Victoria Greco of Slingerlands helped the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute softball team win five straight games;

Torie Rathwell of Guilderland, a right-handed pitcher on the St. Michael’s team, had this season record: 2017 NE10 All-Conference | 2017 NE10 All-Rookie Team | 32 games | 32 starts | Batting: .354 average (team leader) | .615 slugging percentage (team leader) | .404 on-base percentage (team leader) | 13 runs (tied for team lead) | 11 doubles (team leader) | 4 home runs | 20 RBIs (team leader) | 6 walks | Pitching: 21 games | 13 starts | 6 complete games | 6-8 record | 2.95 ERA (team leader) | 1 shutout | 36 strikeouts | 85.1 innings; and

Sean Nolan from Voorheesville, a State University of New York College at Oneonta student majoring in sports management and pre-professional physical therapy, was a member of the men’s basketball team, playing in all 28 of the season’s games, scoring 92 points and collecting 96 rebounds. He also contributed 52 assists and 20 steals.
