Take comfort in the constancy of nature

To the Editor:

During the challenges and feelings of uncertainty of this pandemic, I wanted to share some suggestions that may bring inner happiness.

As spring emerges, take time to listen to the sound of the spring peepers and birds reassuring us that nature is constant. Take time to soak in the changing shades of green in our leaves and fields. The bright orange orioles have returned early and are busily building their spectacular hanging nests.

By offering them oranges and grape jelly and sugar water, we help them have energy after their long journey and they provide us with sights and sounds that are exquisite. The red-breasted grosbeaks also delight us with their magnificent color. Count our blessings as so many others are less fortunate.

Take a  little time each day to really go inward and be still and meditate or pray and listen with your heart to others who may be alone or lonely or feeling overwhelmed.

Laugh, listen to music, read, garden, bake, play games, walk with your children or grandchildren. I safely played badminton in the yard with my granddaughters and we enjoyed the sunshine and fresh air and exercise.

As a retired farmer, counselor, and chaplain, I am available by email or phone if anyone needs to talk.  Feel free to email me at and leave your phone number or email. I will respond to you as time and energy allows.
