Rotary Club sponsors presentation on the Common Core

To the Editor:

The Common Core Curriculum is a hot topic in the media and the press, and it affects all of us. To help people, particularly those without school-age children, develop an informed opinion on the subject, the Colonie-Guilderland Rotary Club is sponsoring a presentation, Common Questions about the Common Core, at the Guilderland Library on Wednesday, May 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

The presentation will provide attendees with an overview of the Common Core State Standards and the implications for teaching and learning. The presenters will discuss some of the most significant paradigm shifts associated with the Common Core, as well as the structure, rationale, and research behind the standards themselves. A Q-and-A session will follow to help demystify the Common Core.

The speakers will be Demian Singleton, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction at Guilderland Central School District, and Suzanne Lamendola, Coordinator for Elementary Programs and Staff Development at Guilderland Elementary School.

Please join us for an informative evening on an important topic.

Timothy Wiles, director

Guilderland Public Library

Editor’s note: Timothy Wiles is married to Marie Wiles, superintendent of the Guilderland Central School District.
