Alexander R. Grone

CLARKSVILLE — Alexander R. Grone, a physics professor at Hudson Valley Community College and an active freemason, died on Monday, May 4, 2015. He was 83. 

He was born in Danville, Pennsylvania on June 21, 1931, to Dr. Robert Y. and Ethyl (née Lloyd) Grone. 

Mr. Grone served eight years in the United States Marine Corps, including four years of active duty during the Korean War. 

He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with bachelor of science and master of science degrees in physics, and has been a member of the American Physics Society since 1960. For 47 years, he was a professor and professor emeritus of physics at Hudson Valley Community College.

Mr. Grone was a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club, and an avid hunter and fisherman when he was younger. He was an ardent amateur radio participant.

Mr. Grone was an elder, deacon, and choir member of the Clarksville Community Church.

He was an active Freemason in many Masonic bodies, including serving as the past prior, and trinity prior of the Knights of the York Cross of Honour, Past Commander of the Albany Sovereign Consistory, AASR, Illustrious master of Bloss-Dewitt Clinton Council, Cryptic Masons, past commander of the Oneonta Council, high priest of the Ancient Temple Chapter, Royal Arch Masons, past commander of the Capitol City Commandery, Knights Templar, and past master of Apollo-King Solomon’s Lodge.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Z. Grone, his son Carl J. Grone  and Colleen, his four stepchildren Clifford Parks and Kathleen, Robert Parks and Gloria, Frances Spadaro, and Catherine Parks, as well as six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Grone, and his stepson, Chrisopher Parks.
