Floyd Mair stands out as school board candidate

To the Editor:
I wish to extend my appreciation to The Altamont Enterprise for once again providing the residents in our community the opportunity to make informed decisions on issues of importance to us all.

I am referring specifically here, to the coverage of the upcoming Guilderland School Board elections on May 21 and the biographies/synopses of the forum conducted between the five candidates. which appeared in the May 2 edition.

While each of the candidates present as committed to creating a positive school environment and an eye towards managing the difficult dilemmas faced by a school district, one candidate stood out to me as embodying the skills and sensibility that is needed to most effectively serve. That candidate is Elizabeth Floyd Mair.

As a Guilderland native, alumni of the school system, graduate of Guilderland High, parent of a present day Guilderland High School student, and representative on the district’s inaugural Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee, Ms. Floyd Mair has an inside view of our school system and culture, from multiple perspectives.

Additionally, her professional expertise as a journalist necessitates the ability to objectively configure situations and reason what is essential to making decisions that would provide the best outcomes for our students, and school community.

Our schools are a vital element of our town. I urge everyone to vote on May 21, to fill the seats of the Guilderland School Board and to cast one of those votes for Elizabeth Floyd Mair.
