Experience counts, and Helen has it

To the Editor:

Mrs. Helen Lounsbury was one of my three sixth-grade teachers at Berne-Knox-Westerlo. There, I benefited from her dedication not only to the educational progress of the students under her care, but her commitment to our personal well-being and growth as well.

It has been my pleasure to get to know her again as an adult, and as “Mrs. Lounsbury” turned into “Helen” her service to our community over those many years became an inspiration.

Her tenure in teaching and previous time on the school board gives her the necessary understanding of the BKW community and insight into the educational challenges and complex budgetary issues that public schools face today.

Helen is mindful of the burden school districts place on taxpayers, and can be counted on to listen to suggestions and concerns, ask the hard questions, and make sound, thoughtful judgements based on research, knowledge, and plain old-fashioned common sense.

The BKW School Board will be considering a multi-million-dollar capital project in the coming year.  It may seem a trite phrase, but experience does count, and, for this school board, Helen’s experience stands unrivaled.
