Driver dies in Route 85 car crash

BETHLEHEM — Wednesday morning, two cars crashed on Route 85 near the Albany city line, killing one of the drivers.

Bethlehem Police responded at about 6:55 a.m. and issued a release the next day, May 2, saying that Matthew R. Monthie, 28, of Clifton Park, was driving west when he crossed over the center-lane markings and crashed into a vehicle heading east, driven by Shawna Marzahl, 53, of Selkirk, who died at the scene.

The vehicle directly behind Marzahl’s, driven by Thomas J. Nastars, 20, of Slingerlands, was damaged by debris from the crash, the release said.

Nastars was not injured and Monthie sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation by Bethlehem Police and the Albany County Crash Investigation Team, remains open.
