May 2 is I Love My Park Day, volunteers sought

New Yorkers may sign up to volunteer at their favorite state park or historic site as part of the fourth annual I Love My Park Day to be held Saturday, May 2. John Boyd Thacher State Park in the Helderbergs is among the parks participating in the event.

Volunteers who would like to support clean-up and beautification efforts at sites across the state may register at ptny.org/ilovemypark.

This year, volunteers of all ages will help improve parks and historic sites through nearly 200 projects ranging from general park cleanup, such as debris and trash pick-up, and invasive plant and species removal to beautification efforts such as planting flowers and trees, weed removal, reseeding, painting, installation of benches and picnic tables, and trail maintenance.

In 2014, the event’s third years, 6,000 volunteers contributed a total of 12,000 hour sat the 83 participating parks and historic sites

This year, 95 state parks and historic sites are participating and more than 3,500 volunteers have pre-registered; more than 6,000 volunteers are expected.
