Join us to clean-up and recycle

To the Editor:

I would like to invite the residents of the town of New Scotland to take advantage of the paper-shredding event that the town is hosting on Saturday, April 29, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Voorheesville firehouse at 12 Altamont Rd.  Papers will be shredded on-site so you can rest assured that your documents are destroyed appropriately.

This shredding opportunity is part of a larger event — Community Cares Days, a cooperative effort of the village of Voorheesville, the New Scotland Kiwanis, and the town of New Scotland. The April 29 Green Clean event focuses on the environment and cleaning up our community. The May 6 Neighbors Helping Neighbors event offers the opportunity for residents to help some of our elderly and disabled neighbors with small home repairs and springtime yard chores.

Also at the Voorheesville firehouse on April 29 (from 9 a.m. to noon) will be drop-off recycling opportunities featuring the following items:

— Clothing and linens, usable items to benefit Voorheesville Methodist Church and affiliates;

— Books to benefit Albany Book Project;

— Shoe boxes, plastic grocery bags, newspapers, small blankets, and towels to be donated to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society;

— Returnable bottles and cans, collected by the fire department’s ladies’ auxiliary; and

— Scrap metal, a fundraiser for Voorheesville lacrosse.

The drop-off recycling is open to anyone who would like to take advantage of the opportunity to clean out some of these items and dispose of them in a way that will benefit someone else.

Green Clean will also focus on community members taking care of their hometown — with many participating in the cleanup of litter along our roadways. Please be extra attentive on the morning of April 29 as more of your friends and neighbors than usual will be out walking the roadways.

Would you like to join us?  Call Karen at (518) 727-5244 for more information on Community Cares Day Green Clean, or Neighbor Helping Neighbor.
