Join the Legion Riders in honoring Vietnam vets on April 21

To the Editor:

We, the Helderberg American Legion Riders, announced last fall that, through your generous support of the bottle drive at the American Legion, we were able to donate $15,000 to send an entire flight of veterans to Washington, D.C. with the Leatherstocking Honor Flight.

That flight will be leaving the Albany International Airport this Saturday, April 21, at 6 a.m. The trip will take 70 Vietnam veterans to Washington to see the monuments and memorials dedicated to them, and to all of those who have served this great nation.

We ask you to bring your flags and join us at the airport Saturday morning to honor these veterans, and give them the tremendous send-off they deserve. We also ask you to join us when we greet them as they return to Albany at 11 p.m. that evening. It is your kindness and generosity that helped make this possible, so please come and be a part of this very heart-warming and emotional event.

On another note, the town of Guilderland is kicking off the Hometown Heroes Banners Program at Tawasentha Park on Saturday, April 28, at 10 a.m. In addition to that, a traveling Vietnam Wall Memorial will be displayed from Thursday afternoon, April 26, through Sunday, April 29.

A dedication ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. All information on this event is posted on the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce website or Facebook page.
