Mary Mattice

ALTAMONT — Mary Mattice, who was devoted to her family, leaves a legacy of kindness, patience and love, her family says. She died peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the age of 76.

“Born on Oct. 8, 1948, in Albany, Mary lived a life defined by love, generosity, and quiet strength,” her family wrote in a tribute. Her beloved husband, James Mattice, died in 2011.

“Their bond was a true testament to lasting love,” her family wrote, “and we take comfort in knowing that they are now reunited, forever in each other's arms.

“Mary dedicated her life to her family. A stay-at-home mom who also worked cleaning houses on the side, she was the foundation and heart of her home.

“Her days were spent raising her children and later helping to raise her grandchildren — watching them, guiding them, and offering endless support while their parents worked. Her home was always open, her arms always ready to hug, and her love never in short supply.

“To many, she was simply ‘Nana’ — not just to her grandchildren, but to anyone who needed a little extra love. Children gravitated to her naturally. She found joy in their laughter, comfort in music, and purpose in helping others. Whether you needed a babysitter, a warm meal, a listening ear, or just a smile, Mary was there without hesitation.

“Mary’s kindness, patience, and love will be remembered and carried on by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, family, and unwavering devotion — a life well lived and deeply loved.”
