Giannone to play flute for Delmar orchestra’s spring concert

BETHLEHEM — The Delmar Community Orchestra, under the direction of Vincent Bonafede, will present a spring concert on Monday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Bethlehem Town Hall at 445 Delaware Ave. in Delmar.

The concert, which will feature classical, pops, and movie music, is free and open to the public.

Flute soloist William Giannone will perform Charles Tomlinson Griffes’s “Poem for Flute and Orchestra” and Benjamin Godard’s “Valse.”

Giannone is a native of East Rockaway, Long Island. He attended the State University of New York College at Fredonia and was graduated with a bachelor of music degree cum laude. After college, he enlisted in the United States Army and was a member of the United States Military Academy Band at West Point.

While in the Army, he attended Teachers College of Columbia University and received a master of arts degree. At Columbia, he studied with John Wummer, principal flute for the New York Philharmonic.  Giannone has performed with many groups on Long Island, including the American Concert Band, the Merrick Symphony, the Five Towns Orchestra, and the Valley Stream Community Band and Orchestra.
