BETHLEHEM — Work is underway on a path that will connect pedestrians and cyclists in neighborhoods near Cherry Avenue Extension with the Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail and businesses located along New Scotland Road.

Work began in mid-March with the contractor, A. Colarusso and Son Inc., clearing vegetation and trees, according to a release from the town of Bethlehem. During the first week of April, more vegetation will be cleared and surveying and earthwork will begin.

Drivers should expect a combination of northbound shoulder and right lane closures outside of the morning and evening commute.

The project, funded by a state Department of Transportation Alternatives Program Grant, is expected to be completed by the fall.
