Capital Region BOCES students earn regional honors

Brianna Beisly, right, a Berne-Knox-Westerlo student of nursing, was among dozens of Capital Region BOCES students participating in the regional SkillsUSA competition. Winners will advance to the state SkillsUSA competition to be conducted in Syracuse in April.

These local students are among the more than 40 Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical Education students who earned medals at the regional SkillsUSA competition Wednesday, March 20:

First place

— Robert Dorrough, Schoharie, Precision Heavy Equipment Operator;

— Bryan Sidney, Voorheesville, Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R); and

— Megan O’Toole, Voorheesville, Restaurant Service.

Second place

— Matt Furlong, Voorheesville, Carpentry;

— Emily Elsis, Middleburgh, Precision Heavy Equipment; and

— Angelo Carino, Guilderland, Food Prep.

Third place

— Sidney McClintock, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Auto Service Technology; and

— Mark Molesky, Schoharie, HVAC.

Fourth place

— Patrick Hoop, Middleburgh, Auto Service Technology; and

— Team of Emily Pinson, Bethlehem, Kierra Balir-Leak, Cohoes, Raven Bryant, Schenectady, Promotional Bulletin Board.

Fifth Place

— Zach Lawrence, Duanesburg, Criminal Justice.

The state SkillsUSA competition will be conducted April 24 to 26 at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. Winners of that event will advance to the national competition in Kentucky in June.
