COUNTY HEALTH NURSE DOING DOCTOR’S WORK
An interesting letter was received by the Health Committee of the Albany County Board of Supervisors from Miss Brown, one of the two county nurses. Miss Brown has been in Rensselaerville township for the past three weeks. At the urgent request of several of the physicians of Rensselaerville and adjacent towns Miss Brown’s committee made up of Dr. Lothridge of Colonie, Mr. Bates of Rensselaerville and Mr. Snyder of Westerlo, have allowed her to do bedside nursing. On account of the severe winter and the impossible conditions of the roads there was deepening need of nursing service, especially since the physicians were not able to cover as much territory as usual. The nurses were established to do preventive work throughout the county and only in real emergencies are they to give bedside care.

The letter from Miss Brown in Rensselaerville reads in part as follows:

“It is almost impossible now to get a doctor here, and equally impossible to get a nurse here to look after Mrs. Blank, who is so very ill. As you know, I have had work enough to keep two people busy all the time. Every morning I go out to Mrs. Blank’s, two miles from here, and I am there three hours and sometimes longer. In the afternoon I make my other calls and people come to me. Most of the grippe or influenza has cleared up. I have had three bad cases of infection to care for and other minor things.

“Sunday, I like to have the day seem a little different from the other days, so I get up very early and go to Mrs. Blank’s before seven, so I can care for her and get down for church. Last Sunday I did this, and toward the end of the service there was a knock on the door of the church and a man outside had come with a sleigh to take me to Ford’s Corners in the town of Westerlo to see a very sick woman. I went immediately and found the woman in such a critical condition that I stayed Sunday afternoon and Sunday night. These people took me Monday morning to Mrs. Blank’s. That afternoon I attended to my patients here. Then I rested two hours and at five o’clock they came after me again to go to Ford’s Corners, and I was there until ten o’clock the next morning. I then had a day’s work ahead of me. I have to assume more responsibility than a nurse would ordinarily have, but the doctors wish me to do so and I get their orders by telephone.”

CLARKSVILLE

Morgan N. Barber deserves special credit for his splendid flock of sheep. Mr. Barber has forty lambs. There are five pairs of triplets.

VILLAGE NOTES

The piano pupils of Miss Margaret E. Waterman held a recital at her home on Saturday, March 24th.

BERNE

Sap, sap, sap! Sugar time is here. Many have tapped but report it a poor crop this spring.

THREE MILE CENTER

— Medusa is shy a few houses this spring. There are more people who want to live there than there are houses for them to live in. Every livable place is being inhabited. A few bungalows would come in very nice now.

— Mr. and Mrs. Oscar McCafferty take possession of their property (The Medusa Hotel) and will accommodate the traveling public which will be a great help to Medusa as agents will find it very convenient, as well as many others who are traveling. We wish the new owners success.

— Folks are thinking about house cleaning nowadays, some have started.
