Bethlehem teacher charged with stalking

Michael E. Fredette

BETHLEHEM — A math teacher at Bethlehem Central High School, Michael E. Fredette, was charged on March 14 with stalking a former student, now 19.

Bethlehem Police arrested Fredette, 63, of Glenmont for fourth-degree stalking, a misdemeanor. The police are not releasing the sex of the victim. “We’re trying to protect the victim’s identity,” said Commander Adam Hornick.

The victim had told police about the stalking last month, Hornick said, and police officers had warned Fredette to stay away from the victim and cease all contact.

“He was going to the victim’s residence and place of employment, trying to do odd jobs at the house, and sending packages to the victim,” said Hornick.

The Bethlehem Police worked with the school district on the investigation and there is no indication that any incidents took place at the school or during the time when the victim was in Fredette’s math class, said Hornick.

But, said Hornick, given the nature of Fredette’s work, the Bethlehem Police Department is requesting that anyone with information about the case call 518-439-9973.
