Gretchen Marie Kunkel Feussner

ALTAMONT — Gretchen Marie Kunkel Feussner, a neuro-pharmacologist, died Saturday, March 7, 2020 after a long illness, at her sister’s home in Altamont, with her family by her side.

She was born in Rome, New York on Aug. 17, 1947 to the late Lambert and Katherine Narrow Kunkel.  She attended the Academy of Holy Names, and Rome City Schools, graduating in 1965 from Rome Free Academy.

She graduated from Trinity College in Burlington, Vermont and received her master’s degree at Syracuse University. She worked as a neuro-pharmacologist for the National Institutes of Health and then for the Drug Enforcement Agency in Virginia, retiring in 2007.

After her retirement, she moved back to New York State to her parents’ summer home on Sandy Pond near Pulaski, New York where she spent many happy years.

Gretchen Marie Kunkel Feussner is survived by her daughter, Krista Poole, of Raleigh, North Carolina.

She is also survived by her siblings: Joseph Kunkel and his wife, Mary Helen, and David Kunkel and his wife, Barbara, of Guilderland; Michael Kunkel and his wife, Marie-France, of Rome, New York; Peter Kunkel and his wife, Mary Beth, of Janesville, Wisconsin; Jacqueline Ash and her husband, Clayton, of Altamont; and Kristine Schrepel and her husband, Eric, of Hudson, Florida.

She is survived, too, by many nieces and nephews.
